STUDIO KABUYA

In 2009, I began creating in-situ sculptural installations in fields and meadows of tall grasses using basketry and hairstyling techniques, primarily braiding. In 2011, good friend Adria Garcia and I began collaborating in this practice as Studio Kabuya. Our collaboration expanded this art form beyond purely formal concerns, and into examinations of public space, ways of honoring and celebrating the land around us, and our own friendship and family heritage. Solo and with Adria, I have created these installations in many beautiful locations around the Seattle area.  See more at studiokabuya.com
